Pomelo 柚子(yòu zi) is one of the primary festive foods of the Mid-Autumn Festival. It is considered a lucky fruit. Its round shape🌕 (圆yuán) represents “reunion 团圆(tuán yuán)” 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

In Mandarin, pomelos are called “柚子yòu zi”, a homophone for words that mean “prayer for a son 👦(佑子yòu zi)”. Therefore, it is believed that eating pomelos and putting their rinds on the head signify a prayer for the youth in the family since the moon goddess “Chang’e” (嫦娥cháng é) will respond to their prayers when she looks down from the moon.🌕

Ling Jiao, also known as water caltrops and water chestnuts, is shaped like a four-pointed chestnut 🔶🔶or a bull's head 🐮 🐮.

In Chinese food therapy, ling jiao resolves dryness and thirst, especially thirst caused by summer heat. It also heals diarrhea caused by spleen deficiency, and, unlike many cool foods, nourishes and harmonizes the spleen and stomach. However, Ling jiao should not be eaten if the patient has malaria or diarrhea due to causes other than spleen deficiency.

🤔Ever wonder what ancient Chinese makeup looks like? 💁‍♀️Let's follow the movie "Mulan" to take a peek at one painted face from the Northern and Southern dynasties (4th to 6th century AD).🤩🤩

It began with a foundation of white face powder, followed by rouge and a dusting of yellow powder to the forehead. ✨Bluish black eyebrows were then painstakingly painted in, lipstick applied💄, and dimples either added or accentuated. 🌷Last was an ornamental design either pasted or painted on the forehead. This was called the "Yellow Forehead Makeup 额黄妆(é huáng zhuāng)".

The legend of Mulan is a well-known story of “filial piety 孝(xiào)” in China. She is known for crossdressing as a man , 女扮男装(nǔ bàn nán zhuāng) 👧 👦 and serving the army in her aged father’s place, 代父从军(dài fù cóng jūn)👧👨‍🦳.

The first written record of Mulan is the “Ballad of Mulan” (木兰辞Mùlán cí), a folk song believed to have been composed during the Northern Wei (386–535).

🌷 Hua Mulan (💡Yes, her full name is 花木兰Huā Mùlán) was a female warrior from Northern and Southern dynasties (4th to 6th century AD) of Chinese history. According to the legend, Mulan takes her aged father's place in the conscription for the army by disguising herself as a man. After prolonged and distinguished military service against nomadic hordes beyond the northern frontier, Mulan is honored by the emperor but declines a position of high office. She retires to her hometown, where she is reunited with her family and reveals her gender, much to the astonishment of her comrades.
