General Requirements for Belt and Road Scholarship


Silk Road Scholarships are often open to citizens of countries that are partners in the Silk Road Initiative.


Prospective scholarship recipients usually must have a previous educational degree that is relevant to the level of study they wish to take (bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral degree). Demonstrating an excellent academic record is one of the main criteria. High grades or GPA may be required.


Prospective scholarship recipients must meet the health requirements set by Chinese/Chinese health authorities. This may involve a physical health examination or attaching a health certificate.

    Some programs require proof of language proficiency, be it English or Mandarin, such as TOEFL or IELTS scores for English, or HSK HSKK for Mandarin.

  • Application Documents
    Official Application Form (Fill out the application form completely and accurately);
    Letter of Recommendation (letter of recommendation from a lecturer, professor or professional who can provide an overview of your academic abilities and character);
    Grade Transcript (Include an official transcript from high school).

  • Portfolio
    For art or design programs, you may be asked to include a portfolio of work or projects.

  • Study Plan
    A document explaining your study plans while in China, including the courses you will take and research projects you may undertake.

  • Passport
    Prospective scholarship recipients must have a valid passport. Of course provide a copy of a valid passport.

  • Other Personal Documents
    Additional documents such as CV, motivation letter, or portfolio (if required).
